Grade 1: Teacher Guides

Overview

This is sample copy. Code4Kids’s Grade 1 Computer Science (CS) curriculum opens the door to CS as an exciting, hands-on journey where curiosity blossoms and young minds discover new ways to solve problems together.

The Orange Level curriculum offers a gentle introduction to core computer science concepts for first grade learners.

Over 4 units and 12–20 lessons, students explore how to navigate software, use input devices, and practice computational thinking. They’ll build skills like sequencing steps, sorting information, and creating simple digital artifacts to express their ideas. Lessons also weave in collaboration—helping children learn to share, ask questions, and work side by side with classmates using digital tools.

Each lesson is designed for a 30 to 45-minute period, ideally once per week, sparking confidence and laying the foundation for a lifetime of digital literacy.
